Vi-Kingsway team tackle dragon boat challenge

Kingsway fielded two teams for a crazy day of fundraising afloat as we joined in the dragon boat racing at Coniston Hall Estate in glorious sunshine on 20th May.

In Viking fancy dress, our aptly named Vi-Kingsway team from the Veterinary Hospital competed alongside the farm vet team from the auction mart and 15 other teams in the colourful watery pageant on the lake.

Organised by Skipton Rotary Club the event raised more than £20,000 for charity. Each team comprised 10 rowers and a drummer to beat the stroke as the boats raced 200 metres across the lake against the fabulous backdrop of Coniston Hall.  Each team raced three times in the heats.

Raising money for Alzheiners, vet and co-director of the practice Jonathon Stockton was one of the aquatic adventurers from the farm team who got his oar in on the day, saying “A number of family and friends of staff at Kingsway have been affected by Alzheimers, so to support the charity seemed a good idea.  There was total commitment from all the staff and I’m hugely proud of them”.
