Craven Sheep Breeding

Through our sister company Craven Sheep Breeding, jointly owned with local veterinary surgeon and sheep breeder Michael Davis, we are able to offer shepherds more specialised breeding services. These include artificial insemination (AI), semen freezing and storage and embryo transfer (ET).

AI allows a single ram to serve a large number of ewes on single day resulting in a very tight lambing pattern whilst making the most of an expensive, well bred or high EBV ram. Frozen semen can be purchased to maximise genetic improvement and reduce inbreeding without the disease risk of borrowing or hiring in a tup. Semen can be collected and frozen for many years, it is a useful insurance policy for expensive males and semen can be traded. ET can be a way of producing as many lambs as possible from a particularly well bred ewe.

Preparation is the key to success in breeding and we can provide advice to help improve results as well as detailed timetables for sheep in breeding programmes.  Contact us by email, cravensheepbreeding@cravenfarmvets.co.uk
